Half the Confederacy’s artillery, and the plating for the CSS Virginia
The largest ironworks in the Confederacy, on the James at Richmond, and a serious part of why Richmond became the Confederate capital at all. Tredegar turned out around half the artillery the Confederate army used, and rolled the iron plating for the CSS Virginia, the ironclad that fought the USS Monitor to a standstill at Hampton Roads in March 1862. Both ships are on this map; this is where one of them got its armour.
