A cave and a hill so steep the wagons had to be lowered down it
A state historical park five miles south of Lewellen in Garden County, holding two things two and a half miles apart: Ash Hollow Cave, and Windlass Hill. The hill is the reason wagons came this way and the reason they dreaded it, a descent steep enough that outfits had to be let down it rather than driven, and the ruts cut into the slope are still legible.
