The high plains of the Nebraska Panhandle, up around the Pine Ridge and the Agate Fossil Beds country, give up two collector’s stones: the pale Nebraska blue agate and the banded prairie agate, weathering out of the grassland and the road cuts. Much of the land is PRIVATE ranch, so ask, but the material is real and sought-after, and the fossil country around it (see the mining history layer) is extraordinary in its own right.
