The potash capital of Nebraska, for as long as a war lasted
A ghost town in Sheridan County about 15 miles east of Alliance on Highway 2, which once called itself the potash capital of Nebraska. The name came from Antioch, Ohio, and the money came out of the alkali lakes nearby: when the First World War cut Germany’s potash off from American buyers, this stretch of Sandhills became worth something almost overnight, and stopped being worth it just as fast.
