Jewel Cave

South Dakota

The third-longest cave in the world, with over 220 mapped miles of passage under the Black Hills and airflow studies suggesting only a small fraction has been found. It is named for the calcite crystals that line its walls like a geode. The scenic tour and the historic lantern tour go deep into the Black Hills limestone. PUBLIC national monument, South Dakota.
