The Bullock Hotel

Deadwood (Lawrence County, South Dakota)

Deadwood’s oldest hotel, built by Seth Bullock, the town’s first sheriff and a friend of Theodore Roosevelt, on the site of his old hardware store. Bullock died in the building in 1919, and staff and guests have reported him keeping order ever since, straightening things, cold spots, a stern presence on the stairs. Deadwood itself is a National Historic Landmark, the whole gold-rush town preserved. PUBLIC hotel, Deadwood, South Dakota.
