Built in 1891 and used until 1953, the pink jail on San Marco Avenue held the worst of St. Augustine in brutal conditions; the sheriff and his family lived in the front rooms, and hangings were carried out off the back. In the oldest city in the country, said to be its most haunted, this is the most haunted building of all, and it runs history and ghost tours daily.
