NOTHING STANDS HERE. The house between Town Creek and Courtland was an odd and famous mixing of neoclassical and picturesque building in one plantation complex, it was neglected through most of the twentieth century, and it was demolished in the 1960s. What survives is the folklore, and a good deal of it: the best known is The Ghost of the Angry Architect, published in Kathryn Tucker Windham and Margaret Gillis Figh’s 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey in 1969.
