Victorio Peak

In 1937 a foot doctor named Milton "Doc" Noss said he squeezed into a shaft on this peak and found stacked gold bars, jewels and skeletons. He dynamited the entrance in 1939 trying to widen it and sealed it for good, then was shot dead in 1949 during an argument over the claim. The army later closed the whole area inside the White Sands Missile Range, which turned the story into a permanent argument, and in 1992 the Noss family were allowed a supervised dig on live range land. They found nothing. Access is impossible: this is an active missile range and the story is to read, not to chase.
