A town at the bottom, the mine 560 feet up the gorge wall, conveyors between

An abandoned mine, processing plant and coal town near Fayetteville, laid out in two pieces: the townsite down at Kaymoor Bottom in the gorge, and the mine portal 560 feet above it on Sewell Bench, in the actual wall of the gorge, the two joined by conveyors. It worked the Sewell Seam of the New River Coalfield for smokeless low-volatile bituminous coal, which is the good stuff, and it is the reason anybody built anything in a place this steep.
