Kearney City on paper, Dobytown to everyone, adobe all through
Officially Kearney City, established in 1859 three miles west of Fort Kearny, and universally called Dobytown because almost everything in it was adobe. It was one of the important stops between Independence, Missouri and the West, which in practice meant it served the soldiers and the wagon traffic in every way those are usually served. Nothing of the community remains, though the site went on the National Register in 1974.
