A dead mining town remembered for a set of 1969 footprints in the snow
A ghost town in Stevens County on the east bank of the Columbia just south of the Canadian line. It topped out at 800 people in 1892, was called Young America first, and took the name Bossburg in 1896 after its first citizen, C. S. Boss. What it is actually remembered for came much later: in 1969 tracks turned up in the snow here belonging to a supposed Sasquatch with a deformed foot, nicknamed Cripplefoot, and the hi-jinks that followed are a story in their own right.
