Bare basalt scoured by more than forty cataclysmic floods
A region of southeastern Washington stripped down to bare basalt: dry channels, coulees and cataracts with almost no soil left on them, because it was all carried away. More than 40 cataclysmic floods did this during the Last Glacial Maximum, and countless older ones over the past two million years, each one a wall of water big enough to scour rock. Geologists spent decades refusing to believe it. Stand in a dry cataract wider than Niagara and the argument settles itself.
