A 1936 Catholic schoolhouse in downtown Bend, saved from demolition and turned into a hotel, pub, cinema and soaking pool without gutting what was there: the classrooms are guest rooms and the chalk rails are still on the walls. Staff stories are the gentle kind, a nun in the hallway, lights and doors in the old wing. Worth it anyway for the tiled Turkish bath in the basement, which is one of the odder things in Central Oregon. PUBLIC, operating hotel and pub, walk in.
