The great white hotel under the Presidential Range opened in 1902, and in 1944 it hosted the Bretton Woods conference that rebuilt the world’s financial system. Its ghost is Carolyn Stickney, the widow of the man who built it, who married a European prince and came back as the Princess; guests and staff have reported her in Room 314 and on the stairs for decades. The hotel leans into it gently rather than making a circus of it. PUBLIC hotel, Bretton Woods.
