Spectrolite, Ylamaa

Spectrolite (labradorite)

Finland’s own gemstone. Spectrolite is a labradorite from the Ylamaa region in the southeast that flashes the entire spectrum, blues, greens, gold and rare red, against near-black stone, far stronger than ordinary labradorite. It was found during wartime fortification digging in the 1940s. Ylamaa is a working gem village with quarries, cutters and shops, and there are guided digs. PUBLIC (organized digs + shops).
