At Vulcan you board a train and ride 2,600 feet straight into the drifts of a mine that produced iron ore from 1877 to 1945, 400 feet underground, through workings cut by hand and by machine. The guides are often from mining families. It is the plainest way to understand what the Menominee Range actually was. PUBLIC train tours in season.
