Seul Choix Point Lighthouse

Gulliver, Schoolcraft County (Upper Peninsula)

A lonely light on the Lake Michigan shore of the Upper Peninsula, first lit in 1895. The keeper, Joseph Willie Townshend, died in the house in 1910, and the stories that followed are oddly domestic: the smell of his cigars in rooms where no one smokes, cutlery turned upside down at the table the way he liked it, a face in the upstairs window. The tower and keeper’s house are a museum you can climb. PUBLIC in season, Gulliver.
