The Old Reliable ran on the Keweenaw for nearly a century and paid a dividend almost every year of it. The tour takes you through the No. 2 shaft-rock house, past the largest steam hoist ever built, a machine the size of a house that lowered men more than a mile and a half down the incline, then by tram down the hill and into the mine on the seventh level, where it stays around 43 degrees. Real native-copper country underground. PUBLIC guided tours in season, Hancock.
