Baredine & the Istrian karst

Croatia

Croatia is one of the great karst countries, the Dinaric limestone is riddled with thousands of caves and pits. Baredine in Istria drops through five decorated chambers to an underground lake, and is home to the olm, the blind cave salamander. Elsewhere Croatia holds Cerovac, the enormous Lukina jama pit (over 1,400 m deep) and the travertine lakes of Plitvice above ground. PUBLIC guided tours, Istria, Croatia.
