A Mandan village from about 1450, and one of the best preserved anywhere
A Mandan village dating to around 1450 AD, found in the early 1900s and now a National Historic Landmark. It is one of the best preserved sites of its period anywhere, which on the plains is unusual: earth lodge villages tend to melt back into the ground within a couple of centuries.
