Seventy-five steep stone steps dropping from Prospect Street to M Street in Georgetown, used in the 1973 film for the death of Father Karras and padded with rubber for the stuntman who fell down them twice. They were already there, a 19th-century shortcut for streetcar crews, and they are now an official DC landmark with a plaque, which is a rare thing for a film location. Runners use them as a punishment. PUBLIC, and steeper than they look.
