Dudleytown, the cursed hollow

Connecticut · Dark Entry Forest, Cornwall (Litchfield County, CT)
Dudleytown, the cursed hollow
USGS · Public domain · source

A failed hill settlement above Cornwall, Connecticut, abandoned by the late 1800s as its families were said to meet madness, lightning and ruin. The cellar holes still sit in the dark hemlock woods on Dark Entry Road. The truth is plainer, thin soil and better land out west emptied it, but the stories made it a magnet, and the private landowners now prosecute trespassers hard. Read it from the road; do not go in.
