The grand French Quarter mansion where, in 1834, a fire exposed the horror Madame Delphine LaLaurie had worked on the enslaved people chained in her attic, tortured over years. A mob gutted the house when the truth came out. It is the most infamous haunted building in New Orleans, wrapped in cries and chains and cold spots; it is private now, so read the plaque from the banquette and do not disturb the residents.
