The oldest cemetery in New Orleans, a maze of above-ground tombs from 1789 where the yellow-fever dead and the city’s founders lie stacked in the heat. Its most-visited tomb is said to hold Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, whose followers still leave offerings for a wish. You must tour with a licensed guide now; the dead here get real respect.
