The stone fortress on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River, built before the Civil War and turned into a prison camp that held thousands of Confederate soldiers in brutal, disease-ridden conditions; many died and lie across the river at Finn’s Point. Reached by ferry and run as a living-history park, it is called one of the most haunted places in the state, and the ghost hunts are an institution.
