Woodburn, the Governor’s House

Kings Highway, Dover (Kent County, Delaware)

Delaware’s official governor’s residence in Dover is a 1798 brick house with the state’s best-known ghost stories attached, including a Revolutionary-era figure in knee breeches and a tale that the house was a stop on the Underground Railroad where a slave-catcher was found dead in a tree. Governors have gone on record about the odd goings-on, which is unusual candour for a sitting official. The house and gardens open to the public at scheduled times.
