Walker Valley geodes

Geodes, chalcedony

A hillside in the Cascade foothills near Mount Vernon where you dig your own thundereggs and geodes out of the clay, some hollow and lined with quartz. It is on Washington Department of Natural Resources land set aside for exactly this, so it is genuinely free and legal, not a fee dig, which is rare. Bring a shovel, a pry bar and patience; the good pockets are down in the blue clay. PUBLIC (DNR rockhounding site), Skagit County.
