A gem discovered in living memory. In 1967 the Scottish-born prospector Campbell Bridges found an intense green grossular garnet in the bush of northeast Tanzania and then in Kenya’s Tsavo, which Tiffany named tsavorite; it is rarer than emerald and, at its best, greener. Bridges was killed defending his Kenyan claim in 2009. The mines are small, PRIVATE and remote; buy certified stones in Nairobi or abroad.
