The source of nearly all the top-quality imperial jadeite on the planet, in Kachin State, Myanmar. Vast mechanised pits have replaced hand digging, and thousands of freelance scavengers pick the waste heaps, where landslides have killed hundreds at a time. The trade is tied to conflict finance and many countries restrict Burmese jade. Included with its ethics stated plainly, not as a destination.
