Bangladeshi Sylhet & the river stone

River gravel, quartz

Bangladesh is a delta, the world’s largest, built of sediment from the Himalaya rather than hard rock, so it has almost no mining, and that IS its geology story: the country is made of other mountains’ erosion. The one working extraction is river-stone and sand dredging in the northeast around Jaflong and Bholaganj, where boulders wash down from Meghalaya and are broken by hand. Hard, poorly-paid work worth understanding rather than romanticising.
