The famous double-terminated quartz crystals of the Mohawk Valley, clear as glass and naturally faceted at both ends. Two PUBLIC pay-to-dig mines sit side by side on Route 28, the Herkimer Diamond Mines and the Ace of Diamonds, where you hammer the hard dolostone and crack out your own. Bring a heavy hammer, safety glasses and patience.
