A working PUBLIC pay-to-dig on Route 28 beside the Herkimer Diamond Mines, where you hammer the hard dolostone or sift the loose piles for your own clear, double-terminated Herkimer crystals, smoky quartz and calcite. Some of the finest crystals in the valley have come off this ground. Keep what you find.
