Aurora Fossil Museum spoil piles

Shark teeth, whale bone · Miocene to Pliocene

A phosphate mine that cannot be entered has done the next best thing: it trucks spoil to a public pit across the street from the museum, free, open, and restocked. You sit in the gravel with a screen and sort. It is the most reliable place in the Carolinas to put a child on their first shark tooth, and the museum next door will identify what you find. Free, no permit.
