The longest known cave in Alaska, more than two miles of passage in the limestone of Prince of Wales Island in the southeast panhandle. Its cold entrance has yielded Ice Age bones, black bear, and remains that helped rewrite the story of how people first came down this coast. The Forest Service runs free guided tours in summer (you climb 370 steps just to reach the mouth); no lights, so they hand you a headlamp. PUBLIC (Tongass National Forest), by reservation.
