Canada is the largest producer of nephrite jade on Earth, and nearly all of it comes from British Columbia, from the mountains around Dease Lake, Cassiar and the Fraser, where boulders of deep-green jade the size of cars are lifted whole. The First Nations of the Fraser worked it into tools for thousands of years. The mines are remote and industrial (PRIVATE claims in hard country), but BC jade is sold the world over, and cobbles still turn up in the rivers below the deposits.
