Tragedy Spring cached gold
On the Carson Pass emigrant route in Amador County, three scouts of the 1848 Mormon Battalion party were killed here, giving the spring its name. Local lore holds gold was cached nearby in the chaos. The spring is real, the buried gold is legend.
