The largest and oldest structure in the Samoan islands, and most people have never heard of it. A basalt platform 65 by 60 metres at the base with three more platforms stacked on top of it and a paved level surface at the summit, standing about 12 metres on the south side and 7 on the north. It is lined up with the cardinal directions. Excavation puts the building somewhere between 1100 and 1400 AD, with the site out of use by 1700 to 1800. Archaeologists read it as a central place, a ceremonial site tied to how Samoan society was ranked. It is also called Tia Seu. Letolo Plantation, Palauli district, at the east end of Savai’i.
