On 3 March 1876, flakes of red meat fell out of a clear sky over Olympia Springs for several minutes, covering a patch of ground about a hundred yards long. Samples went to scientists in New York; the leading verdict was vulture vomit, a flock disgorging in flight, which is a real behaviour. Preserved samples still exist. One of the strangest documented events in American weather.
