The Golem of Prague

The most famous legend of Jewish Prague: Rabbi Judah Loew is said to have shaped a man out of clay from the Vltava and animated him to protect the ghetto, and when the golem grew dangerous he unmade it and hid the remains in the attic of the Old-New Synagogue, where the story says they lie to this day and where nobody is permitted to go up. The synagogue is real, the oldest active one in Europe, standing since 1270. Told as the great folklore it is.
