Granite spires the emigrants called the Silent City

A national reserve and state park in south-central Idaho, two miles north of the Utah line, known to emigrants as the Silent City of Rocks. The spires here and in the neighbouring Castle Rocks are granite, largely the Oligocene Almo pluton and the far older Archean Green Creek Complex, and climbers have been coming for the rock ever since the wagons stopped. Standing among them it is obvious why people on the California Trail wrote the place down.
