The Bunyip

From Aboriginal tradition across southeastern Australia comes the bunyip, a creature of the billabongs, swamps and waterholes that bellows in the night and drags the unwary under. When European settlers arrived they took the stories seriously enough to mount searches, and fossil bones of extinct megafauna, Diprotodon and the like, were repeatedly presented as bunyip remains. It is deep First Nations folklore tied to real, genuinely dangerous water country. Told with respect for whose story it is.
