Forty-five thousand acres of badlands, and barely a trail in any of it
Forty-five thousand acres of steeply eroded badlands in San Juan County, made a wilderness in 1984 and run by the BLM, with three parcels of private Navajo land inside the boundary that are not yours to wander onto. The 2019 Dingell Act added roughly another 2,200 acres. It is a desolate place by any reading, which is exactly why people go: there is no trail system to speak of and the erosion has left shapes that do not look like they belong on this planet.
