The Baldoon Mystery

Michigan · Baldoon, near Wallaceburg (Chatham-Kent, Ontario)

In the 1820s a Scottish settler family at Baldoon, in southwestern Ontario, was tormented for years by a poltergeist: stones flew, fires lit themselves, the house shook, and a lead ball fired at a black goose was said to break the curse of a jealous witch next door. It is one of the oldest and best-documented poltergeist cases in Canada, written down while the settlers who swore to it still lived.
