Found in 1991, buried, and full of oil

A meteorite crater in Major County with the town of Ames sitting near the middle of it, 30 miles southwest of Enid. Nobody knew it was there until 1991, because it is buried under a thick layer of sediment with nothing on the surface to give it away. Drilling inside the structure found a great deal of oil and gas, which makes it one of six impact craters in the United States tied to oil-producing formations.
