Moraine Lake, and the road that is shut

The road is closed to cars year round, and people drive up it anyway

READ THIS BEFORE YOU DRIVE. Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles all year. Not busy, not permit-only: closed. The ways in are the Parks Canada shuttle, Roam public transit, or a licensed commercial operator, and the shuttle needs a reservation booked ahead; it runs from around the start of June to the middle of October, and both the dates and the booking opening move each year, so take them from Parks Canada rather than from here. The exceptions are registered guests of Moraine Lake Lodge and visitors holding a government-issued accessible parking placard. What is up there is the Valley of the Ten Peaks and a lake the colour of antifreeze, and the colour is rock flour, glacial silt ground fine enough to hang in the water and throw back blue. People still drive up and get turned around every day of the season.
