The capital of Spanish Texas, and it is in Louisiana
From 1721 to 1773 the capital of Tejas, which is to say the capital of Spanish Texas, stood in what is now Louisiana. Los Adaes held a Franciscan mission, San Miguel de Cuéllar de los Adaes, and a presidio, Nuestra Señora del Pilar de los Adaes. The name comes from the Adai, a people of the Caddoan confederacy, who were the reason the missionaries were there at all. Fifty-two years as a capital, on the far northeastern edge of New Spain.
