The southernmost ground in the fifty states, and a landmark district

The southernmost point of the Big Island and therefore the southernmost ground in the fifty states: everything else in the country is north of this rock. It is registered as a National Historic Landmark District under the name the South Point Complex, because people have been living off this headland for a very long time. The currents and the winds here are ferocious, which is the same reason there is a wind farm standing on it. Walk to the edge, look south, and it is a very long way to anything else.
