Destroyed by Kilauea in 1960, rebuilt, then destroyed again in 2018

Kapoho sits at the far eastern tip of the island on the graben above the east rift zone of Kilauea, which is a technical way of saying it is built on the volcano and the volcano knows it. An eruption destroyed the town in 1960. People rebuilt: private homes, holiday rentals, a community again. In 2018 the lower Puna eruption destroyed it a second time, and this time the lava took the bay along with it and left that buried too. Two towns, one piece of ground, both gone the same way.
