One of the most architecturally sophisticated lighthouses in America
A lighthouse on Mohegan Bluffs at the southeastern corner of Block Island, and the National Historic Landmark listing it got in 1997 calls it one of the most architecturally sophisticated lighthouses built in the United States in the nineteenth century. That is unusual language for a lighthouse. Most of them are engineering first and building second, and this one is the other way round, standing on a clay bluff above the Atlantic with the whole southern horizon to itself.
